Servings: 6-8
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Chill Time: 1-2 hours

Ingredients:

For the Chocolate Nut Crumble:

  • 1 cup (100g) crushed chocolate cookies (like Oreos or chocolate graham crackers)
  • ½ cup (60g) mixed nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, or walnuts), chopped
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

For the Whipped Cream Layer:

  • 2 cups (500ml) heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup (30g) powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Strawberry Layer:

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (optional, for sweetness)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Additional Layering Options (optional):

  • Sponge cake or ladyfinger cookies, cut into cubes
  • Chocolate shavings or extra chocolate chips for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chocolate Nut Crumble

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the crushed chocolate cookies, chopped nuts, and melted butter.
    • Spread the mixture on the baking sheet and bake for about 8-10 minutes, until slightly crisp. Remove from oven and let it cool completely.
  2. Prepare the Strawberries

    • In a bowl, combine the sliced strawberries with the sugar and lemon juice. Let them sit for 5-10 minutes to release their juices, which will add a fresh sweetness to the trifle.
  3. Whip the Cream

    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Be careful not to over whip, as you want a light and fluffy texture.
  4. Assemble the Trifle

    • In a trifle dish or individual serving glasses, start layering the ingredients:
      • First, add a layer of whipped cream.
      • Next, add a layer of the chocolate nut crumble.
      • Then, add a layer of strawberries with their juices.
      • (Optional) If you’re using cake or ladyfingers, add a layer here.
    • Repeat the layers until you reach the top of the dish, finishing with a layer of whipped cream.
  5. Garnish and Chill

    • Garnish the top layer with a sprinkle of the chocolate nut crumble, extra strawberry slices, and some chocolate shavings.
    • Refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours before serving to let the flavours meld.

This trifle is best enjoyed chilled, and the creaminess with the crunch and sweetness makes it a treat everyone will love. Enjoy!
